This is a fun and easy to make coffee filter turkey puppets craft you can make with toddlers and young kids. It’s the perfect craft to make for Thanksgiving together! We had a lot of fun making these with our kids!

a coffee filter turkey puppet, made by a real 2 year old. 🙂

These are so very easy to make! All you need are coffee filters, markers, cardboard or construction paper, popsicle sticks, some water, and some glue!

If you are working with young kids, make sure you use washable markers! This will make cleaning up MUCH easier. {Thankfully this craft is not that messy to begin with!}

Here’s How to Make a Coffee Filter Turkey Puppet:

Step 1: Draw on the Coffee Filters With Marker

I like to give each kid a paper plate and a coffee filter. I tell them to draw lines or shapes on the coffee filter using different colors on the turkey.

Step 2. Paint water on the coffee filter design

The next step is VERY easy – just use a paint brush to paint water over the coffee filter design. This will cause the different colors to blend and make all sorts of neat designs and patterns.

Let the coffee filters dry – if you are in a hurry or live in a cold/wet climate where nothing dries quickly, you can always use a hair dryer to dry each one very quickly.

If you are really pressed for time, you can also skip this step of painting them with water entirely – the coffee filters look great with the dry marker, too!

Step 4: Decorate the Cardboard Turkey Body

Cutting out the turkey body shape is pretty easy to do – I just drew a number 8 on the cardboard to be about 1 1/2 inches wide and then cut it out.

I let the kids decorate the turkey bodies any way they wanted. This is a good step to do while the coffee filters dry.

Step 5. Assemble the Turkeys

Once the coffee filters are dry, your next step is to fold the coffee filter in half, and then glue it to the popsicle craft stick and then glue on the cardboard turkey body cut-out.

Last Step: Enjoy a Turkey Puppet Show Story!

Once the glue is dry, you are ready to enjoy a very fun turkey puppet show! Gobble, Gobble, Gobble!
